The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Sept. 9, 9:00 p.m., 7900-block 118th St.: Overnight, an unknown suspect smashed the rear driver side window of a vehicle and stole headphones, sunglasses, miscellaneous ID cards and $40 cash.
• Sept. 9, 6:00 p.m., 11900-block 72A Ave.: Complainant reported two of her vehicles were rummaged through the night before. A samurai sword with a red handle, a GPS, insurance documents and a debit card were stolen.
• Sept. 9, 9:55 p.m., 8300-block 119A St.: Complainant reported that he parked his vehicle in the driveway at 9:05 p.m. and at 10:05 p.m. heard his dog barking, causing him to look out the window to find that his car was stolen. Police attended and spoke to complainant’s neighbour, who advised that he saw the vehicle go mobile at 9:55 p.m. The vehicle has since been recovered.
• Sept. 10, 4:30 p.m., 10000-block River Way: Report of attempted theft-of-auto. Complainant said the vehicle was last seen parked in the back lot of a business at 4:30 p.m. and was discovered in the field south of the business at 8:30 a.m. the next day. Police attended and the vehicle was stuck in deep soft sand about 150 feet from the back parking lot. The ignition was damaged but no other sign of forced entry was found.
• Sept. 10, 11:51 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., 11700- and 11800-block Chateau Wynd: Unknown suspect entered vehicles by unknown means and stole collectively two sunglasses, a portable speaker, tax documents, a Nikon camera and lens.
• Sept. 10, 7:00 p.m., 7000-block Brewster Dr. East: Complainant reported that an unknown suspect entered his vehicle overnight and stole a cell phone charger, vehicle documents, owner’s manual, Rayban sunglasses and $10 in loose change.
• Sept. 11, 5:00 p.m., 9200-block 119th St.: Complainant reported that a stereo faceplate worth approximately $150 was stolen from her husband’s unlocked vehicle. Both wife and husband had handled the vehicle extensively prior to contacting the police.
• Sept. 11, 8:30 p.m., 11800-block 71A Ave.: Complainants reported that their vehicle was stolen overnight from their driveway. Vehicle was stolen with the keys as they were left inside the vehicle. The vehicle has since been recovered.
• Sept. 12, 5:30 p.m., 11800-block 80th Ave.: Report of a dash camera worth $200 stolen from a vehicle while it was parked in an insecure underground parking. Front passenger window was smashed, the windshield was cracked and the rear-view mirror was broken.
• Sept. 12, 8:38 a.m., 7600-block 115th St.: Police attended a follow-up mischief call. Complainant advised that two unknown males attempted to steal his boat by cutting the locks and rolling the trailer out to the street. Neighbour advised that a suspicious vehicle was in his driveway at 5:45 a.m. The vehicle and occupants drove off without the boat and trailer after realizing they had been seen.
• Sept. 12, 3:30 p.m., 11800-block Chateau Wynd: Complainant reported that unknown persons had entered his vehicle that was parked in front of his residence and stole two Ray Ban sunglasses, a Bench bag and personal documents.
• Sept. 13, 9:33 a.m., 11800-block Woodlynn Crt.: Police received report of a gift card scam. Complainant received an email from someone posing as his boss, telling him to purchase $3,700 worth of Amazon gift cards and to email the photos of the backs of the cards. Unfortunately, the complainant emailed the photo of the cards to an unknown suspect. Complainant later contacted his boss and discovered that the email was fraudulent.
• Sept. 13, 8:00 p.m., 500-block Annance Crt.: Complainant reported the theft of 11 batteries with an estimated value of $1,660 from trucks parked in the parking lot.
• Sept. 13, 8:00 a.m., 7600-block 112th St.: Complainant reported his $1,200 secured Kona Shred bike was stolen from the bike rack at Burnsview Secondary School. Both locks had been cut.
• Sept. 13, 12:00 a.m. 11000-block 88th Ave.: Police attended a parking lot after a complaint of a male lighting fire crackers. Police located a male who stated he and a friend had been blowing fire crackers earlier that evening. The man was advised of the bylaw noise infraction and sent on his way with a warning.
• Sept. 14, 10:19 a.m., 9800-block River Rd.: Security guard reported a break-and-enter at a business. Upon attending police found the rear door was ajar with stripped copper wire, wrapped for transport. Rear door was secured by guard.
• Sept. 15, 11:00 a.m., 800-block Cliveden Ave.: Police responded to a late report of the theft of batteries from trucks parked in the lot. Value of theft approximately $1,500.
