The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Nov. 27, 9800-block River Rd.: Complainant reported hearing loud noises inside a building. Police observed a male suspect inside. The male ran further inside out of view of police. Extensive fresh damage was noted on exterior door. Suspect left behind several tools and recently cut metal as well as a vehicle with punched ignition and no plates.
• Nov. 28, 7100-block Nicholson Rd.: Unknown suspect entered a vehicle’s trunk and stole a lap top bag containing cheques. The suspect later attempted to cash a cheque in neighbouring jurisdiction, but was refused.
• Nov. 28, 11900-block 74B Ave.: Overnight between Nov. 23 and 24, someone entered the complainant’s truck and stole a bag of tools. Power tools and a titanium hammer were taken.
• Nov. 30, 9300-block 120th St.: At 23:31, an unknown suspect punched the front lock of the business, entered and stole the cash register. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with a light scruffy beard, between five-foot-nine-inches and six feet tall, with a medium-heavy build. He was wearing white runners, dark jeans and a grey hoody, with black backpack with reflective strips on the shoulder straps.
• Dec. 1, 6600-block Stoney Cres.: At 17:43, police responded to a residential alarm. A rear door appeared to have been forced open using pry tools. A number of rooms were ransacked and jewelry was stolen.
• Dec. 2, 10300-block Nordel Crt.: Two tractor trailers were broken into, and 12 tires and rims were stolen.
• Dec. 2, 11800-block Baker Pl.: A tablet, keys and change were stolen from an unlocked vehicle overnight between 9 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.
• Dec. 2, 6500-block Sunwood Dr.: A passport and CDs were taken from an unlocked vehicle.
• Dec. 4, 500-block Audley Blvd.: 30 pallets were stolen from a yard at approximately 5:30 p.m.
• Dec. 4, 11700-block 93rd Ave.: Complainant advised police she sold a dress on Kijiji and was talked into setting up a PayPal account and sending money to the buyer in the form of a $50 iTunes gift card. The address the dress sent to was in Quebec and flagged by Canada Post. Complainant advised Canada Post and PayPal, who will get the dress back to her as its still in transit.
• Dec. 4, 7800 117th St.: Complainant requested police assistance after she received a fraudulent Canada Revenue Agency phone call. Complainant advised that she provided her name and SIN number before realizing it was a fraudulent call. Complainant ended the call and didn’t provide further information. Police advised her to inspect her bank statements and to file reports with Equifax or TransUnion.
• Dec. 5, 9400-block 117A St.: A theft-from-vehicle occurred overnight. An unknown suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a $200 Garmin GPS.
• Dec. 6, 11900-block 90th Ave.: Complainant reported that overnight on Dec. 4 someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her insurance papers.
• Dec. 6, Highway 17: Complainant was driving eastbound on Highway 17 at 02:26 when she observed a deceased animal on the roadway. Police conducted patrols of the area but were unable to locate the deceased animal.
• Dec. 6, 11700-block Summit Cres.: Complainant reported a Ryobi 18V one+ Lithium+ Jet Fan blower, valued at $168, stolen from their shed. The theft occurred on Nov. 20, but was reported on Dec. 6.
• Dec. 7, 86th Avenue and Scott Road: Delta police stopped a vehicle turning southbound on Scott Road at approximately 3:30 a.m. after observing erratic driving behaviour. The constable interacted with the driver and observed indications the driver was impaired. The driver was asked to blow in an approved screening device and the result was a fail. Police issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the driver’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
• Dec. 8, 11900-block 95A Ave.: Complainant called police to report the theft of approximately 90 wooden pallets from their driveway. Complainant stated a neighbour noticed a truck loading pallets in the early morning hours of Dec. 8. The pallets were not secured or behind any fencing. The 90 pallets taken are worth approximately $400.
• Dec. 8, 12000-block Nordel Way: Delta police pulled over a vehicle at 10:34 a.m. after the driver failed to stop for a stop sign. While interacting with the driver police noticed a strong odour of liquor. The driver provided two breath samples, resulting in a fail reading. Police issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the driver’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
