MOUNT WADDINGTON—North Islanders will install new municipal councils and school district board of trustees Saturday at polling spots across the region.
New mayors will take office in Port Hardy and Port McNeill, with councils to be selected in Alert Bay, Port Alice, Port Hardy and Port McNeill.
School District 85 will see a mix of new and returning trustees under a restructuring that increases Port McNeill’s representation to two trustees from one while reducing the number of trustees in outlying areas, including Alert Bay, Port Alice and Sointula, to two trustees from the current three.
Only one Regional District of Mount Waddington Board seat is being contested, with incumbent Andrew Hory facing challenger Pat Horgan in Area C.
All other Areas, as well as the mayorships of Alert Bay (Michael Berry) and Port Alice (Jan Allen) have been filled through acclimation.
Also acclaimed are the Port Hardy area’s three SD85 Board trustees — incumbents Jeff Field, Danita Schmidt and Leightan Wishart, all incumbents.
Voting will be held Saturday in polling places throughout the North Island:
In Alert Bay: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Village office, 15 Maple St.;
In Port Alice: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the Municipal office, 1061 Marine Dr.;
