Signs are popping up that North Okanagan-Shuswap communities are supporting a well-known local organization.
New signs promoting the North Okanagan-Shuswap Crime Stoppers Society, and its anonymous 1-800-222-8477 tips phone number, have been installed in Lumby, Predator Ridge, Vernon, and Spallumcheen, and will be put up in Armstrong.
“This is a program we started to get municipalities in the area we serve to indicate their support for Crime Stoppers so we can help them reduce crime and keep their district safe,” said society president Mike Remington, as a sign was installed just shy of the Village of the Lumby at the pullout west of the village entrance.
North Okanagan-Shuswap Crime Stoppers covers an area from Cherryville to Falkand, to Salmon Arm and Sicamous.
Presentations will be made in all communities in the new year.

Crime Stoppers is another set of eyes and ears for the RCMP and is 100 per cent anonymous. Anybody who sees a crime, or knows information relating to a crime, can call the 1-800 number and be eligible for a cash reward if the tip leads to an arrest.
“It’s a great function, really helps keep the community the safe, and gives people an opportunity to help maintain the safety of their own neighbourhoods by providing that very important 1-800 number,” said Lumby Mayor Kevin Acton, whose community was the first to erect the sign.
“We’re very happy to get behind it and have this advertised. It’s a privilege to have Crime Stoppers in our community.”

The City of Armstrong will erect a sign at Pleasant Valley Road and Bridge Street.
