At least 15 seniors and five staff are ill after an outbreak of the Norwalk virus at the Lodge on 4th in Ladysmith. The 101-bed lodge has visitor restrictions in place, which will soon be lifted, said Andrew Butler, consultant for the lodge.“Protocols are in place to stop the spread of the illness,” he said.To contain the virus, Butler said they are following VIHA’s rules.“We’re making sure there’s adequate supplies to stop the spreading of the illness.”The Norwalk virus is known to cause gastrointestinal illness and is especially dangerous for senior citizens.“Each person reacts differently,” he said.No one has been hospitalized, he added.Butler said officials believe the outbreak started Thursday, Feb. 25.
