Not everybody is stoked about technological changes to their shopping experience.
Some shoppers have been posting on social media that they are not happy about a recent change to the Walmart location on Vedder Way in Abbotsford.
The store recently added more self-checkouts – now 15 in total – and reduced the number of cashier-assisted lines.
There is now no limit on the number of items that shoppers can ring through at the self-checkouts.
Some people have said they prefer going to a cashier, but, with fewer now available, they are concerned about longer lineups. But they don’t want to use self-checkouts when they have a cart full of groceries.
Others are against the move because they believe that the machines put employees out of work.
Some people have said that, when they discovered the change at the location, they left their groceries behind and walked out of the store.
However, some people say they find the technology more convenient and have no issues with using the checkouts.
The change hasn’t yet impacted the Walmart location at Highstreet shopping centre on Mt. Lehman.
A November 2018 survey out of Halifax’s Dalhousie University indicated that about 55 per cent of the people surveyed agreed that self-checkouts are a good idea. Another 20.3 per cent were indifferent.
