Could April snow bring May flowers to Barkerville?
The historic town east of Quesnel received a fair bit of snow, said Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon who confirmed 59 centimeters of the white stuff fell last month.
“It’s just an active pattern through the Cariboo area that gave a fair bit of snow there,” Sekhon said.
Records for Barkerville go back to 1888.

While the average snow accumulation for April is nearly 33 centimeters according to historical climate normals from 1981 to 2010, there have been much snowier years.
In April 1945, Sekhon said Barkerville received 167 centimeters of snow.
Despite this year’s snow, the BC River Forecast Centre said April was a very dry month for much of the province.
Only three areas of B.C. experienced relatively normal monthly precipitation totals (85 to 115 per cent) including the East Kootenay, Prince George and Quesnel, the centre noted.
