Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment lodged 94 files, which included 10 prisoners, in the past week.

Halloween evening was peaceful with no serious incidents, other than one reported complaint of a house being egged around midnight.

Visitor centre break-in

Large amounts of cash were taken from Vanderhoof’s visitor centre and chamber of commerce after a break-in over the night of Nov. 1.

Also known as the Smithers House on Vanderhoof Community Museum’s historical grounds, the building appeared to be entered by force through the front door in a manner similar to incidents that occurred at Subway and Vanderhoof Co-op’s gas bar last month.

An iPad, as well as money that was left in the till and locked in an on-site safe, were taken. Some office equipment was left on the lawn outside the building.

According to results from the RCMP’s forensics unit, the suspect was wearing gloves during the theft.

Though not available at the scene, the RCMP continues to canvass the area for surveillance video.

Seeking shelter

A man and a woman were found staying at an unmaintained building — with an indoor fire — on the historical grounds in the morning of Nov. 2.

Now removed from the scene, the people are identified to be transient and have said they are westbound.

Hungry theft

Consumable products were taken from Vanderhoof Elks Lodge over the night of Oct. 28.

The hall’s front door appeared to have been left unsecured that night.

Though no witnesses and suspects are located so far, the RCMP’s forensics unit seized some items that were moved by suspects for investigation; results are pending.

Found in Vanderhoof

A vehicle stolen from Prince George was located by the RCMP at Brookside Resort on Nov. 2.

Responding to report of a woman with a dead car battery, attending police officers arrested Carmelita Abraham from Prince George for charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property related to a break-and-enter case in Prince George. She appeared in Prince George Law Courts for her charges last week.
