CITY CENTRE — Acting Surrey Mayor Mike Starchuk was on hand Friday as Novex Delivery Solutions unveiled its first 100 per cent electric vehicle to its courier fleet at city hall.
The announcement comes one day before Earth Day, celebrated on April 22 each year.
The company, which reports making more than 1,700 deliveries a day, says the Chevrolet Bolt “marks an exciting new chapter as Novex continues their goal of being a fully emissions free courier service.”
The car boasts a 375-kilometer range and Novex says it plans to introduce more electric vehicles to its fleet this year.
“We are building liveable, sustainable communities, and key to this is to promote low carbon transportation options,” said Councillor Starchuk in a release, who also chairs Surrey’s Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee. “I want to commend Novex for its leadership and commitment in using environmentally friendly forms of auto technology to reduce the carbon footprint of its courier fleet.”
John Coupar, Novex president, says the company has “made it our mission to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions” and that “by bringing in the Chevy Bolt EV into our fleet, we are one step closer to realizing our dream of being completely emission free.”
Novex introduced their fleet of hybrid vehicles back in 2003 and in 2008 became the first carbon neutral courier in Canada. They say it has helped them save more than 180 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
