Student enrolment in School District 27 (SD27) is expected to increase, as is the case for other school districts in the province.
SD27 acting Superintendent Harj Manhas says preliminary numbers indicate the district expects to gain as many as 100 students this year.
Noting it’s excellent news,” Manhas adds it means that more families are moving into the area and that’s great for the health of our communities and our schools.”
The increase in students will also be welcomed news for area educators who will experience more job postings in the district this year as a result.
Manhas, who stepped up from assistant to acting superintendent to replace outgoing superintendent Mark Thiessen a few weeks before the start of the school year, says his transition in the district has gone smoothly thanks to everyone working together as a team.
School District #27 has appointed acting superintendent Mark Wintjes as of Sept. 21, after its board was informed Harj Manhas, who held that temporary role since Sept. 1, has decided to return to his former position of assistant superintendent.
Manhas has since gone back to his role as assistant schools superintendent. School District #27 has appointed Mark Wintjes as acting superintendent on Sept. 21.
SD 27 has 23 schools as well as a home-school program and manages an annual budget of more than $52 million.
Last week, Education Minister Mike Bernier announced he expects enrolment to be at about 529,000 students across the province this year – an increase of 2,900 from last year.
