A land swap between Langford and Metchosin won’t see a hurdle in Oak Bay.
Council readily agreed to an alteration to the Capital Regional District’s Regional Growth Strategy.
“The amendments don’t really change anything as it applies to us,” said Oak Bay Mayor Nils Jensen.
The amendment would permit an expansion to the Regional Urban Containment and Servicing Policy Area. With two readings already passed by the board, the amendment bylaw was forwarded to CRD municipal councils for acceptance or rejection.
The CRD initiated a process in September to consider extending the Regional Urban Containment and Servicing Policy Area in Metchosin and Langford by 154 hectares allowing for water and sewer services.
The amendment was requested in context with a broader economic development venture between Metchosin, Langford and the Beecher Bay First Nation.
The amendment, if adopted, would take effect if the province adjusts the Metchosin and Langford municipal boundaries.
Local councils must submit their response by Jan. 9.
