Quick action by RCMP, including Police Dog Services canine Haro and handler Cpl. Jason Goodfellow, resulted in the arrest of a couple who fled from police Nov. 14.

According to Sgt. Jason Bayda, area commander of the Osoyoos RCMP detachment, about 11 a.m. that day members of the Penticton RCMP targeted enforcement unit spotted the 27-year-old woman and 29-year-old man in a vehicle with a stolen plate.

Officers knew the woman to be a prohibited driver at the wheel of a black car and the man in the passenger seat, having just been released from jail a week earlier with a condition not to be in a motor vehicle.

When they realized they had been spotted, the pair allegedly fled the scene.

The vehicle was subsequently located by police in Oliver who followed it from a distance as it headed south to Osoyoos on a back road on the east side of Osoyoos Lake.

The car eventually got stuck in the sand and the two then fled south on foot along the lakeshore.

Officers from several detachments converged on the scene and after a lengthy search Haro and Goodfellow found the pair hiding in the bushes.

Shane Pope of Penticton has been charged with one count of breach of probation and Connie Clarke of Oliver is facing one count each of flight from police, dangerous driving and driving while prohibited.

“The great work and coordinated efforts of the South Okanagan regional detachments and Haro were paramount in this incident ending with the arrest and charges and no injuries,” said Bayda in a news release about the incident.
