Okanagan-Coquihalla MP Dan Albas has opened a second constituency office in his sprawling riding.
The Conservative MP, who moved up to West Kelowna from Penticton last year but whose riding extends from south of Penticton to Logan Lake and Merritt and includes all of the Westside, opened a second constituency office in Westbank Monday afternoon.
He did so after announcing he would not renew the contract for the large billboard sign alongside Highway 97 near Westside Road both he and his predecessor, Stockwell Day, used to advertise to drivers coming off the W.R. Bennett Bridge that they were now in the Okanagan-Coquihalla riding.
“I have heard concerns from many citizens over the billboard I have used to relay my contact information to residents in West Kelowna, an important consideration as it is rare for a community this size to not have an MP office located directly within the municipality,” said Albas.
He said one of his constituents who expressed displeasure about the billboard sign also offered a constructive suggestion— open an office in West Kelowna to negate the need for the sign.
“And today that is precisely what we are going to do” said Albas earlier Monday.
“This office will also be more strategically located for citizens in Peachland, Merritt and Logan Lake who frequently travel through West Kelowna on a more regular basis,” added the MP.
“My existing Penticton office will continue to offer service to Penticton and the southern portion of Okanagan-Coquihalla as before.”
The new Westbank office is located in unit 10-2483 Main Street in downtown Westbank, a small strip mall knows as Highway 97 Plaza.
