With a forecast of rain and rising temperatures over the next few days, the Okanagan Indian Band is alerting residents living in the vicinity of creeks to prepare for increased water flows and rising lake levels beginning at noon on Thursday, May 11.
“Okanagan Lake, currently at capacity, is expected to increase in water volume by 30 centimeters,” the band states.
OKIB has established a Command Centre to monitor potential situations resulting from water flows expected to exceed those experienced this past Friday.
Stay safe by keeping your distance from creek and river banks; these fast moving bodies of water are serious hazards. There are no current evacuation orders for OKIB locations, but residents living on reserve lands are encouraged to check the band website for updates at www.okib.ca, or the following websites:

Volunteers are needed to assist in filling sand bags; if you are interested in volunteering, or require more information contact the OKIB Command Centre at 250-542-7132.
