Bratwurst, beer and pretzels will all be on the menu when the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach team up to introduce Oktoberfest 2017 Friday, Oct. 13, at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.
For 25 years the Qualicum Beach Chamber and Rotary have teamed up to deliver an annual fundraising gala.
In 2016 they celebrated the 25th Gala as a “Night to Sparkle.” Wanting to offer Qualicum Beach and the surrounding area an exciting, entertaining fall fundraising event, the planning committee decided that a change of focus was in order. So mark your calendars for the first Qualicum Beach Oktoberfest, taking place at the civic centre on Friday, Oct. 13.
Originally held in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Oktoberfest is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from September to October. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the Middle Ages. During the event, large quantities of beer are consumed. In Munich there is also a wide variety of traditional foods including chicken, roast pork and würstl (sausages) along with brezen (pretzels) and sauerkraut.
Be prepared for bratwurst, local craft and German beer with Bavarian style soft pretzels, and the chance to win great prizes like a fridge full-o-beer and a trip to Germany.
