A 42-year-old man was arrested on Oct. 15 in Mission for allegedly producing the cannabis product “shatter” in his home.
Shatter is a type of cannabis concentrate that often looks like honey in its oil form. Under the newly legislated Cannabis Act, it is illegal to produce shatter and other similar substances.
The man was arrested after Mission RCMP received information that there was a clandestine lab at his property, and they obtained a search warrant.
A search was conducted with the assistance of Integrated Forensic Identification Services, Integrated Police Dog Services, the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, and the ‘E’ Division Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response Team.
According to an RCMP release, the lab was housed in large outbuildings and contained harmful chemicals and production equipment. The dismantling of the lab required “above and beyond” safety measures and expertise, police said.
“Our goal is to disrupt the illegal drug trade in and around Mission. We want to send the message that illegal drug trafficking and production won’t be tolerated here,” said Cpl. Nathan Berze of the Mission RCMP.
Anyone with information about suspicious activity in their area is asked to call the RCMP at 604-826-7161 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
