A man from Duncan in his early 50s is dead after a workplace accident near Lake Cowichan on Aug. 14.
RCMP Cpl. Chris Manseau said a rock truck lost control at a worksite on Mountain View Drive.
He said the driver was seriously injured in the accident and was airlifted by BC Ambulance to a Victoria hospital, but died on Aug. 16 of injuries sustained in the incident.
Manseau said the accident is under investigation, and any further information about the victim should come from the BC Coroners Service.
WorkSafeBC was also notified about the accident.
“It’s now in the hands of the Coroner’s Service,” Manseau said.
“There’s nothing suspicious about the incident. It’s a tragic event but there is nothing criminal suspected.”
In a statement, the BC Coroners Service confirmed it is in the early stages of it’s fact-finding investigation into the death.
“Our investigation will determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his death, including cause of death,” the statement said.
“Due to the privacy of the deceased, per the Coroners Act and provincial privacy legislation, the BC Coroners Service does not confirm or release the identity.”
