The BC CDC is reporting one new case of COVID-19 in the Golden area for the week of July 4 – 10. It is the first reported case of COVID in the area since May, and follows a five week stretch without a single case, the longest stretch since the BC CDC started reporting weekly numbers back at the end of November 2020.
Cumulatively, Golden has seen 129 cases of COVID from January 2020 through June 2021.
South of Golden, Windermere and Kimberley both saw one new case as well, with four in Cranbrook. Revelstoke saw no new cases.
Grand Forks remains a provincial hotspot, with 21 new cases, as Interior Health case counts remain the highest in B.C. amongst health authorities.
Case rates are now approaching levels last observed in August 2020, as test positivity continues to decline, sitting at approximately one per cent provincially.
New hospitalizations are declining or stable, comparable to September 2020 levels. The majority of hospitalizations continue to be in those aged 40+.

The BC CDC is reporting that approximately 92 per cent of all positive cases in B.C. are a Variant of Concern, with Delta accouting for 14 per cent of all variants.
Vaccines prevents 7 out of every 10 infections in those aged over 50.
In Golden, 81 per cent of those 12 and up have received at least one dose of the vaccine, one of the higest rates in the province. The highest is the Central Coast local health authority, which has 94 per cent coverage.
Revelstoke sits just ahead of Golden with 84 per cent. The provincial average for first dose coverage is over 75 per cent.
Provincially, one third of those 12+ have received their second dose as well.
The BC CDC is also reporting that the rate of COVID-19 infection has been higher among unvaccinated individuals than among vaccinated individuals.
