BC Ambulance and the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle accident near Kinkade Road on Island Highway West around 11 a.m. Jan. 3.

“We arrived to find a single vehicle off the road and a single occupant trapped inside that we had to extricate,” said Dashwood fire chief Nick Acciavetti.

Acciavetti said there were two people in the vehicle but only the individual in the passenger seat needed to be extricated. He said the vehicle hit a tree which was “kind of wrapped around the occupant.”

The extricated patient seems to have sustained non-life threatening injuries, Acciavetti said, and was transported to Nanaimo hospital.

An air ambulance was called in but not needed. “Which is good news,” Acciavetti said.

Acciavetti added that with the recent heavy rainfall in the area, drivers are urged to use caution and slow down on the roads.
