One trapped, one thrown from truck in Enderby crash

UPDATE: Two occupants in truck rollover out Enderby-Mabel Lake Road Monday

A truck rollover in rural Enderby Monday had one occupant trapped and another thrown from the vehicle.

RCMP, ambulance, air ambulance and fire crews were called to the accident at 2856 Enderby-Mabel Lake Road (near Hupel Road) shortly after 4:30 p.m.

“There was a pickup with two occupants in the vehicle and both are conscious and out of the vehicle,” said Enderby Fire Chief Cliff Vetter at 5:30 p.m.

“When they (crews) got there one was out and one was still trapped in the vehicle.”

One occupant was thrown from the vehicle and had to be airlifted from the scene.

“They ended up against a post, which saved them from rolling down the other side towards the river,” said Vetter.

The accident, 29 kilometres out Enderby-Mabel Lake Road, took place on a windy section of road.

“There’s quite an S bend in the road right where it happened,” said Vetter.

The road was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene and RCMP took over.

“The road was closed until about 11 last night,” said Vetter. “The RCMP were doing an extensive investigation.”

Second MVI of the night

Enderby Fire Rescue had a busy evening Monday.

Following a rollover on Mabel Lake Road Monday, crews were called to a second single-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle just before 7:30 p.m.

“The witness said he had lost control and ended up in the ditch,” said Cliff Vetter, Enderby fire chief. “He was taken by ambulance and at the time and he was still not conscious when we loaded him.”

The Highway 97A crash took place approximately three kilometres north of Grindrod.
