In an effort to keep Campbell River residents as informed as possible on the state of public events during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, we have reserved this space for community announcements of the cancellation or postponement of public events. If you have an event that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and would like the public to be aware of any postponements or cancellations, please email editor@campbellrivermirror.com and put “Cancelled Event” in the subject line.

Pier Street Farmers Market
A Facebook post by market organizers states that the market’s opening date has been postponed to at least June 7, 2020. They will be reassessing the decision on an ongoing basis and letting the public know as updates are available.
Storey Creek Golf Club closes
A message from Storey Creek management says: “Regrettably, we made the decision this morning to CLOSE the golf course and all facilities. While we had reduced all touch points at the facility to practically zero, and while we still believe that golf courses may be the best areas to maintain physical distancing, we feel, like the Government, our Provincial Health Minister and the BCGA that closing the facility will help to flatten the curve and prevent the further spread of Covid 19. On behalf of all the staff, we thank you for your support, co-operation, flexibility and understanding during this extremely difficult time. Please stay safe, stay home, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the club when we are again able to.”
North Island Outdoor Adventure Show
The North Island Outdoor Adventure Show has been postponed to April 24-25, 2021.
Mt. Cain
Mt Cain is closing for the season on Friday, March 20.
Songs for Students
Songs for Students scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 at the United Mennonite Church, 2277 Enns Rd. in Black Creek has been cancelled
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army family thrift store and their New Beginnings Boutique is currently closed for two weeks and currently they are not accepting donations from the general public. They will update this time frame at a later date.
Also, their Sunday morning services at Ocean Crest Community Church have been cancelled until April 30 and again they will update this at a later date. All weekly events have been cancelled as well.
Sybil Andrews Cottage
The Campbell River Arts Council has announced the closure of Sybil Andrews Cottage March 17.
“Just yesterday I sent a letter to Membership outlining a new policy obligation for rental groups cleaning and sanitizing at the end of their rental,” reads an email to Arts Council members from executive director Ken Blackburn. “Canada today is saying gatherings of 50 or less is recommended, but I see the United States just said 10 a few hours ago.
“In a community environment that will increasingly experience risk, I am deciding to close down the Sybil Andrews Cottage until we receive information that encourages us to re-open.
“All meetings and bookings, regardless of scale, are suspended until further notice. Please do not access the Cottage.”
“I feel it is time to express absolute caution. My apologies to our member groups – you are so very important to us. We are collectively the Arts Council. I’m trusting that you understand this decision.”
Quadra Island Community Centre
The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) announced March 17 they are closing the Quadra Island Community Centre for non-essential services until further notice as a precautionary measure to help slow and limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“As an essential service to Quadra Island Residents, the local Food Bank, will continue to operate from the Community Centre with extra precautions and increased cleaning frequency to help prevent the spread,” the organization says.
“The Quathiaski Cove Sewer System is a critical infrastructure system operated by the SRD. All operations and legislative testing will continue as usual and a business contingency plan is in place if needed.
“We appreciate your support and understanding during this challenging time. We are confident that by acting swiftly and proactively, we can limit the impact of this situation and resume regular operation as soon as it is safe to do so.

Quilt Show
The Campbell River Friendship Quilters show on March 21 has been “postponed indefinitley” due to COVID-19 concerns.
Hospital Thrift Shops
The Campbell River Hospital Auxiallary posted on Facebook on Monday night that both the Hospital Gift Shop and Hospital Thrift Shop are closed “effective immediately, due to the COVID-19 outbreak,” and asked that the public “DO NOT drop off donations until we are open again.”
Museum at Campbell River
On the evening of March 16, the Museum at Campbell River made a post on its Facebook page which reads as follows:
“In consideration of the health, safety and well-being of our staff, visitors and fellow community members, the Museum at Campbell River will be closing to the public until further notice effective March 17 at noon.
“This is a precautionary measure to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to support the Province-wide efforts to reduce the spread of this virus.
“Museum staff will continue to be available via e-mail to answer any questions that you may have.
“These are uncharted waters for many of us and we appreciate your support and understanding during this challenging time.”

March 16, province orders all public gatherings of over 50 people to be prohibited.
City of Campbell River / Strathcona Regional District
The City of Campbell River and the SRD are closing recreation facilities, community centres, community halls until further notice.
Campbell River Friendship Quilters Guild
The quilt show scheduled for March 21 has been cancelled.
Habitat for Humanity
The March 27 key ceremony on Hilchey Road has been cancelled. Habitat for Humanity is unsure if it will be rescheduled, but will update information as it happens.
Discovery Passage Aquarium
Speaker series with Dr. Wiley Evans scheduled for April 8 has been postponed until further notice.
Casinos
All casinos in B.C. ordered closed.
Archery Campbell River
Archery Campbell River is closed to any group gatherings. All archery nights and instruction have been suspended until further notice. The 3-D Archery Shoot planned for May has also been cancelled until further notice.
Campbell River Gymnastics club
The Campbell River gymnastics club is closed until further notice.
OX Chophouse
Campbell River’s OX Chophouse announced today they will be closing their dining room doors and shifting business to a unique take-out service. Starting this week, OX will be offering its new menu items to-go, right from their restaurant doorstep.
Tim Hortons / Starbucks
Tim Hortons will be moving to take-out, drive thru and delivery only, and Starbucks will close all company-operated mall and university-based stores as well as temporarily remove seating from stores.

Mount Washington
The resort has announced it would not be opening as of Monday, and would be awaiting an update from the federal government regarding efforts toward “more drastic measures” to stop the spread of the virus.

North Island College
Campuses will remain open, but the college will be transitioning from face-to-face learning to “alternate delivery methods and assessment” for the remainder of the term.

Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala
The Campbell River Chamber of Commerce has postponed their awards gala until further notice. The gala was to be held Saturday, April 4 at the Campbell River Community Centre. More information will be provided as it is made available.
B.C. Soccer (Campbell River Youth Soccer Association)
B.C. Soccer has directed all members and affiliated clubs to suspend all sanctioned soccer activities in the province until further notice.
Comox Valley Curling Club / MARS Curling fundraiser
“After careful and critical consideration, the Comox Valley Curling Club has decided to cancel the remaining on and off ice curling gatherings for members in our season effective March 15th. This includes the Battle Of The Breweries Keg Curling Fundraiser.”
Special Olympics
Campbell River Special Olympics team practices are cancelled until April.
Campbell River Baptist Church
March 15 Sunday service was been cancelled. According to their website: “Our church has Sunday attendance of around 350. After much discussion and consultation with health officials we have decided to suspend our Sunday service.” The church listed a “Sunday service from home” online for those interested.
Children’s Health Fair
The annual Campbell River Family Network Children’s Health Fair that was to be held on March 27 has been cancelled.
Seedy Saturday
City of Campbell River Recreation Department has cancelled the ‘Seedy Saturday’ event scheduled for Saturday, March 21st. We apologize for the inconvenience,” according to the City of Campbell River Recreation and Culture Department’s Facebook post mid-afternoon on March 13.
Words on the Water
Campbell River’s Words on the Water writers’ festival, originally scheduled for March 27 and 28, has been cancelled.
“We will be refunding tickets. More details about refunds to come,” said Dana Mills, one of the event’s organizers.
Dancing and Tapas
The Campbell River Rotary Clubs are postponing this year’s Dancing and Tapas fundraising event scheduled for March 28. They have re-scheduled the event to be held on Oct. 17, 2020. Tickets for this year’s event may be retained for the Dancing and Tapas event on Oct. 17, or returned for refund. To return tickets, contact Amy at Amy’s Asian Food and Café, 250-286-0595.
Rotarians hope to see everyone at Dancing and Tapas on Oct. 17 at the Community Centre, at 5:30 p.m.
Hometown Hockey Tour and events
The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour, which was scheduled to storm into Campbell River in two weeks, has been cancelled due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.

Campbell River School District
SD72 has cancelled all school-related and district-sponsored gatherings effective immediately. School is in session on Friday, March 13, and spring break starts on Monday, March 16.
