It’s that time of the year in Lake Country where singer songwriters are set to gather and show off their talents in a popular and growing community event.
The 4th annual Lake Country Open Mic Has Talent contest will begin in early February spotlighting original singers and songwriters from the Okanagan.
“Have you got singing and songwriting talents?” asks Jennifer Boal, founder of Lake Country Open Mic Has Talent. “The annual contest was designed to spotlight original singers/songwriters and give them the opportunity to win some studio recording time and performance opportunities. The multi-evening contest allows performers, over the age of 12, to showcase their music for a panel of judges, and experience the positive feedback from a small live audience.”
Since its inception the popularity of the contest has grown and uncovered an amazing array of performers from across the Okanagan in a cozy venue, at the Lake Country Coffee House.
“I’ve been amazed by some of the talented musicians from Lake Country that have participated in the annual contest,” said Boal. “We’ve got some brief video clips of 2013 and 2014 performers are available at www.lakecountryopenmic.ca to give you a flavor of the talent we have locally.”
Boal says a big part of the success is the Lake Country Coffee House’s support and venue where local entertainment is celebrated and supported by residents and visitors alike.
The top five performers in 2014 included Aaron Gordon, Brandy Moore, Ben Klick, Madeleine and Abby Ertel, as well as Michael Painchaud. The judges had a tough time choosing the prize winners. Performer prizes include pro audio recording/production time with Dan Marcelino of DMA Studios as well as opportunities to perform through the Lake Country Open Air Performance Society, Parks Alive, ArtWalk, Penticton Festivals, and the IPE.
