It’s time to break out the sequins, leotards, shoulder pads, and off the shoulder tops because the Organic Humans are throwing an 80s themed party.
Margaret Macdonald said members of the Cawston-area band have been hard at work learning some big 80s tunes including Rebel Yell from Billy Idol, Simply the Best by Tina Turner, Joey by Concrete Blonde and more.
“There seems to be a real excitement about that era of music. There’s a lot of people in their 40s that just love it and want to come out and dance to 80s music. Someone had mentioned we should throw an 80s themed party and we decided why not,” she said.
“We’ve really liked rockin’ out to these songs. The 80s were a very expressive and rockin’ time.”
Joining the Organic Humans for the night will be Moni Funk a Kelowna-based band with roots in the Cawston area.
Organic Humans lead guitarist and vocalist Elam Wills grew up with Dale Basnett, “a wicket electric guitar player,” in Moni Funk. Also in the band is Monica Tracey who is the main singer and keyboardist.
“It’s a reunion of sorts. We’re all super excited about it,” she said.
DJ JD Music Woman will be spinning 80s tunes that night to keep the party going in between sets.
The dance takes place at the Cawston Hall on April 13 with doors opening at 7:30 p.m.
Macdonald said those going should pick up their tickets early so as not to be disappointed. Tickets are on sale at Keremeos Pharmasave and the Cawston Market Place. Tickets are $15.
“There’s a lot of excitement around this dance. People are going to get dressed up. There will be lots of prizes with prizes coming from local wineries, One Eyed Budgie and lots of surprise prizes,” she said.
There will be local wine, craft beer and cider for sale.
Also on tap for the Organic Humans is recording of a few originals. The group is currently in the middle of recording We Are Each Other’s Gurus at the Similkameen Studio.
“Pretty soon we’re going to have an EP ready and we’re pretty excited about that,” shes said. “We’re really making a name for ourselves and stretching our wings and playing in lots of places.”
