Local politicians, volunteers and community members will be serving up more than 1,000 Christmas meals to people in need on Tuesday afternoon.
The annual Christmas lunch at Our Place will served more than 450 kilograms of turkey, 110 kg of stuffing and 115 litres of gravy at one of the most popular meals of the year.

“It’s a pretty ambitious undertaking that requires a half a dozen staff to make it work,” said food services manager Brian Cox. “We need to have the turkeys prepped and ready on Monday evening. While the birds are cooking the staff work non-stop on mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables.”
Our Place patrons face bad weather in the winter, but holiday seasons can also be difficult for those no longer in contact with their loved ones.

“For people living in poverty, we’re often the closest family they have,” said Don Evans, executive director of Our Place in a statement. “We want everyone to know they are loved and cared for.”
The event will run from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 919 Pandora Ave.
