A vehicle crash severed a power pole on Herd Road and left more than 3,600 customers in the Maple Bay area without power overnight.
There’s no word on the condition of the driver or any occupants as police have yet to release information.
Details are sparse but witnesses reported seeing a white SUV upside down, with significant front-end damage and emergency personnel on scene.
A vehicle collided with a power pole at approximately 1 a.m., “rendering it undriveable,” Const. Amron Christensen confirmed later in the morning.
The officer said BC Ambulance Service was declined.
“No other information is available at this time,” Christensen said.
Power to 3,620 customers was disrupted until roughly 8:25 a.m.
For some, the juice went out around 1:07 a.m. For others, it went out at 2:15 a.m.
“It’s all from one accident,” BC Hydro spokesperson Ted Olynyk explained. “It was a double circuit pole that they hit.”
