Pair charged in Surrey sex attacks ordered to stand trial

Simranpreet Dhillon and Gurjinder Sodha accused in 2012 assaults on two different women.

Two men charged in connection with two violent sexual assaults in 2012 have been ordered to stand trial.

Simranpreet Dhillon and Gurjinder Sodha were charged in May 2014.

Dhillon faces 11 charges which include two each of sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, robbery and possessing weapons/firearms, plus one charge of aggravated assault.

Sodha faces three charges: sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and robbery.

The two men were ordered to stand trial by a Surrey Provincial Court judge last week, after a preliminary hearing of the evidence that concluded Thursday (Jan. 28).

When they were arrested, police alleged Dhillon was involved in an attack on a sex trade worker that was picked up in north Newton and taken to a secluded area of Colebrook Road in August 2012.

It’s also alleged both Dhillon and Sodha were involved in a second incident two months later when another woman was picked up in Whalley and also driven to Colebrook Road and assaulted.

Dhillon and Sodha’s next court date is scheduled for March 10. A trial date has not yet been set.
