The City of Grand Forks campgrounds in City Park will soon see the addition of panels separating each of the stalls.
“What it’s meant to do is give each of the stalls a little more privacy and to enhance it a bit more to make it attractive to visitors,” explained Coun. Gary Smith. “There will be two panels for the shorter sports, with three for the longer rigs.”
Smith pointed out that this project came together quickly.
“Money has been spent on the infrastructure, the electrical, the sewer hook ups and all that stuff, so all this campground really needs is a facelift,” he said. “If we’re going to charge people to come and camp here, we want to make the experience a good one.”
There are 21 stalls available at the City Park campgrounds and is based on a pay-per-night system.
Coun. Bob Kendel noted that having sewer lines beside the picnic table isn’t the most pleasant option.
“The council thinks it needs to be cleaned up and made more attractive with an enhancement program,” he said. “We’re working to get some signage done to direct the traffic off the highway and hopefully have them stop here.”
Kendel added this is part of the effort to promote Grand Forks.
“It’s been an objective for the city to get some traffic off the road and we need to make an attractive place for them if we get them off the road to stop and to have them come back,” he said. “We don’t want to come here and then think, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ll never come here again.’ By making things prettier, people will stay longer and tell their friends.”
Smith stated the upgrades should be completed by the end of June.
