Armstrong’s newest park is one bylaw reading away from adoption.
Council unanimously gave three readings to official community plan and zoning amendment bylaws that will pave the way for property at 2855 Patterson Avenue to become Huculak Park.
The move came after one person attended a public hearing on the matter.
Fourth and final adoption of the bylaw will likely happen in March.
Consultant Christina Walkden, an Armstrong native who is in her second year of her masters degree program in landscape architecture at the University of Manitoba, has been working on design ideas for the park.
A public meeting in August suggested that the park be a quieter space, and include things like checkers, walking trails and space for small children under the age of five.
The park will be named for Bernie Huculak, who donated the land.
Armstrong administrator Patti Ferguson said work on the park would likely begin in April or May.
Yard waste pick-up date set
Spring pruning and yard waste pick-up will take place on Monday, April 23 in Armstrong.
Material must be out on the curbs for pickup before 7 a.m.
Prunings must be tied in bundles with string (no wire of any kind); their sizes must be manageable and are to be stacked parallel to the street, away from other objects.
The maximum diameter of pruning is four inches and the maximum length is six feet.
Prunings with thorns are to be bundled separately.
Yard waste such as leaves, needles, clippings and other materials that can’t be bundles may be bagged in a see-through plastic bag. Any other types of bags or boxes will not be picked up.
Maximum weight of each bag is 50 pounds, and the bags are to be placed at the curb, away from the bundles.
No loose material will be picked up and leaves are not to be raked on to the streets.
