Downtown Kelowna will be a hub of activiity for Canada Day celebrations on Wednesday, July 1. To accommodate the event, there will be road and parking closures.
Roads
On July 1, Water Street will be closed from Cawston Avenue to Sunset Drive from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Access to the Delta Hotel and Prospera Place parking lots will be maintained during the closure.
Fireworks will take place at approximately 10:30 p.m., weather permitting. Knox Mountain Drive will be closed to vehicles at 8 p.m.; however pedestrians will have access to the park until 11 p.m. Knox Mountain Drive will re-open Thursday, July 2 at 9:30 a.m.; with the exception of the portion beyond the upper gate.
Motorists are asked to obey traffic control personnel at all times for the safety of the large number of pedestrians anticipated.
Parking
On-street parking will be restricted from at 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Water Street from Cawston Avenue to Sunset Drive during the road closure. Parking on Bernard Avenue in front of Kerry Park will be restricted from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The Mill Street parking lot will be closed from 6 a.m. until after the fireworks dispersal.
The Dolphins parking lot will be closed from noon on Tuesday, June 30 until noon on Thursday, July 2. Monthly permit holders will be allowed to park in the Dolphins Parking lot on Thursday, July 2.
Public parking will still be available at the Library Plaza Parkade located at 1360 Ellis St. and Chapman Parkade at 345 Lawrence Ave.
Transit
Residents are encouraged to take transit to the fireworks. Buses will be running according to the Saturday schedule throughout the day, and additional buses will be available at the Queensway Transit Exchange after the fireworks display ends to alleviate overcrowding.
Regular fares apply, and children under 12 ride free when accompanied by an adult.
Service disruptions and traffic delays may occur throughout the day due to road closures. All Route 2 North End buses will detour from Water Street to Cawston Avenue to Ellis Street and then follow regular routing.
