Parkland nabs Chatter cash

Parkland secondary school is the latest winner in a South Island online fundraising initiative.

Parkland secondary school is the latest winner in a South Island online fundraising initiative.

About 2,600 high school students and teachers from School Districts 61, 62 and 63 are registered on ChatterHigh.com. The website allows schools to generate revenue, while providing information about post-secondary programs, employment opportunities, social services, environmental information or other titbits.

Grand prize competitions have occurred three times already, the most recent ending on June 10 that netted Parkland $2,000 awarded by sponsor VictoriaTechJobs.com.  Participating schools also received a percentage of revenue from clicks.  Claremont used the $500 it earned towards a fundraiser for a teacher whose child has cancer. Lambrick used funds towards building a home in Ecuador and Vic High used its earnings to get new basketball jerseys.

Camosun College sponsors the next competition starting Oct.10 for SD 61, 62 and 63. The first place school will get $1,250, second place $750 and third place $500.
