Parksville begins 2020 budget planning process

City seeks public input and feedback

  • Oct. 4, 2019 12:00 a.m.

The City of Parksville has began the planning process for its 2020 municipal budget and five-year financial plan.

It will be seeking public’s input and suggestions in budget 2020 discussions that will be conducted in October and November as part of the financial planning process. Earlier this year, council identified five strategic plan priority areas as housing, recreation, healthcare, economic development and community safety.

The city is conducting a short online survey to help better understand where residents would prioritize monies to be spent in 2020.

The survey is available online until Oct. 23 and may be accessed from https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Parksville-Budget2020. Paper copies of the survey are also available from city hall.

Residents are encouraged to attend budget deliberation meetings as council will provide opportunities for the public to provide comments and ask questions at all budget meetings which will be held at 6 p.m. in the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre, 100 Jensen Avenue East. Dates are Monday, Oct. 28, Thursday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 25 (if necessary).

As well as completing the online survey and attending the budget meetings in person, there are two further opportunities to contribute to the discussion: Email comments and questions to council@parksville.ca. Comments should be received by Oct. 23 for the Oct. 28 meeting and by Nov. 15 for the Nov. 21 meeting. Please note comments will form part of the public record.

Also, you can watch the meeting live online through the city’s webstreaming. Video from the meeting will be archived to be viewed at another time as well.

If you are not familiar with the city’s budget information, the municipal budgets and financial plans are available on the city’s website.
