Parksville city council unanimously voted on March 1 in favour of a bylaw amendment to extend the boundaries of the Northern Community Sewer Service to benefit six lots in the Nanoose district.
As part of the approval process, the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) required the consent of at least two out of three of the service participants, the City of Parksville being one.

In a staff report, dated Jan. 7, to the Electoral Area Services Committee for the RDN, it stated that the property owners who petitioned to amend the boundaries of the French Creek and Northern Community Sewer Service areas did so in order to redevelop each parcel into smaller lots and build new homes.
The report states that the properties, located northwest of Wembley Mall in Parksville, are half-acre properties that have discharged domestic sewage to on-site septic tanks and disposal fields for over 40 years.
“There are no negative financial implications to the RDN or to the existing sewer system customers. All costs associated with connection to the community sewer would be at each property owner’s expense,” read the report.
