The Parksville Curling Club wants city council to consider a change to its liquor licence that would allow them to serve booze beginning at 8 a.m.
The club is seeking council’s permission and a resolution supporting their applications to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) to permanently expand the lounge area authorized for serving liquor and alter the hours of operation.
Blaine Russell, director of community planning and building with the city, said the curling club has over the years applied to council on an annual basis for special events permits. He said this has been done each year on a temporary basis for the last 12 years. The club believes changes to LCRB policies will allow an application for a permanent change to be considered and has made applications accordingly.
The club’s existing liquor licence permits liquor service between the hours of 2 p.m. and 1 a.m. Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The proposed changes would increase hours to permit liquor service between the hours of 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
“Should council wish to provide comment on the application, either in support or opposition, it must gather public input from the community within the immediate vicinity of the [Parksville Curling Rink],” read a report from Russell.
