The Parksville Volunteer Fire Department turns 75 in 2017 and the department will throw its own birthday party.

To mark the historic milestone, the department has announced it will host an Open House and Show &Shine on Saturday, July 22 in downtown Parksville.

Firefighting apparatus will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking area adjacent to the fire station (between the fire station and City Hall).

Special attractions will include classic fire equipment from communities on Vancouver Island, as well as the equipment now in use at neighbouring fire departments.

Save the date, July 22, and celebrate an historic day with the Parksville Volunteer Fire Department, which was originally established in 1942.

The open house will feature live demonstrations, station tours and anniversary activities. Children and adults are invited to the family-oriented celebration. Light refreshments will be available by donation.

“Our 75th anniversary celebration is an opportunity to make the community aware of the breadth of the department’s service to the Parksville Fire Protection Area,” Parksville fire chief Marc Norris said. “It’s also the perfect opportunity to meet Parksville’s dedicated on-call firefighters.”

Additional details for the anniversary celebration will be available closer to the event.
