Parksville Qualicum Beach grandmothers host huge fabric sale

All proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation's work with African orphans of the HIV/AIDS pandemic

If you have old fabric or sewing supplies to clear out, or you’re looking for more, the Oceanside Grandmothers to Grandmothers are hosting your event this weekend.

The group is holding their first ever giant fabric and yarn sale, with all proceeds going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s work with African orphans of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and the grandmothers raising them, as usual.

“So many people around here sew and stuff, there’s such a great quilting community, we thought this would be great for people that have a stash of material they’d like to donate, and a great way to raise money,” said co-organizer Pamela Vest. She said they started planning the sale more than a year ago, based on the success of the G2G group in Calgary and once they started talking about it, donations and help flooded in. They have had 40 people turn out to recent work bees to sort, measure and tag the material, which includes things like pre-measured quilter’s fabric, originally purchased for $20-25 a meter, on sale for $4 a meter.

Donations can still be dropped off at Knox United, where the sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, March 12. Contact Vest at pamela.vest@gmail.com or 954-1885 for more information.
