The Parksville Royals will continue to operate the Springwood Park concession stand for up to five years.

During January’s open city council meeting, council voted unanimously in favour of entering into another rental agreement with the baseball club for use of the Springwood Park concession facility. The agreement started on Jan. 1, 2021, and expires on Dec. 31, 2023, with an option for a two-year extension.

The corporate officer for Parksville, Amanda Weeks, said: “The Royals have successfully operated the concession facility at Springwood Park since 1997, and other user groups have also benefited from the use of the concession as profits from the facility are put back into various other user groups.”

Coun. Teresa Patterson said she was pleased the money made from concession sales go back into the facility.

“So many youth groups benefit,” said Patterson.

Under conditions of the rental agreement, the club will also be responsible for erecting and dismantling temporary fencing for tournaments during baseball season; providing proof of liability insurance of $5,000,000 with the city named as the additional insured; allowing all user groups of Springwood Park access to the concession facility; ensuring all health regulations are met; and for all costs associated with concession operation.
