For commuters who usually pedal to work and school – and those who would like to start – there are some fresh incentives for Nanaimo riders to get back in the saddle.
Fall GoByBike happens Monday, Sept. 27, to Sunday, Oct. 10.
The Pedal to Places Challenge, a touch-free scavenger hunt and a great way to explore Nanaimo by bike, is back with a slightly higher tech twist. The challenge map for Nanaimo will be released Monday, Sept. 27, when riders can pedal to map locations, collect code words from each destination and submit them by end of day Oct. 10 for a chance to win $200.
The Pack and Pedal Challenge is new for 2021. Riders can show off the various kinds of payloads they pack on their bikes. Whether it’s groceries, recyclables, tools or children, participants simply take photos of their loaded bikes and upload them to the Nanaimo GoByBike Facebook Event or e-mail photos to gobybike@nanaimo.ca. Every cyclist who submits a photo gets a chance to win a $50 gift card to their favourite bike shop or a high-security lock for their bike.
Cyclists are also encouraged to check out upcoming cycling programs for adults and children in Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture’s fall 2021 activity guide.
