Pedestrian hit and killed on highway

Hitchhiker from Fraser Lake hit and killed on Hwy 1, east side of Cache Creek.

A 45 year old Fraser Lake man was the victim of a fatal accident on Hwy 1 in Cache Creek on Saturday morning.

At 5:15 am on Apr. 11, RCMP were called to the scene on the east side of town near the entrance to the golf course and just beyond where the speed limit changes to 100 kph. The man appeared to have been hitchhiking and was in the eastbound driving lane when he was struck and killed by an eastbound Ford F350 driven by a 51 year old Lone Butte man. It is speculated that he died on impact.

The matter is still under investigation and the victim’s name has not been released. An accident reconstructionist was brought in to look at the scene and RCMP are waiting for his report, and also that of the Coroner’s office.
