Pedestrian hurt when van crashes into Langley business

A pedestrian was taken for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries in a low-speed crash.

A driver hit the gas instead of the brake and ended up driving into the front of a yoga studio in Willoughby Wednesday evening.

The RCMP was contacted about 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 5, called to Willoughby Town Centre. A vehicle smashed into the front of Oxygen Yoga.

“The single driver, a 35-year-old female from Langley, was driving, pulling into a parking stall and inadvertently hit the gas rather than the brake,” Langley RCMP Cpl. Craig van Herk explained. “Up over the curb and into the business. Also did collide with a pedestrian that was there.”

The 46-year-old female pedestrian was taken to the hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The police are looking at whether provincial Motor Vehicle Act ticket.

“Speed wasn’t obviously a factor. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor, so they’ll look at the totality of it and make a decision,” he said.

The business has posted a closure notice on its website: “Due to unforeseen circumstances the studio will be closed until further notice. Everyone in studio is okay.”

The studio said it expects to be back offering classes by Saturday.
