Victim suffered serious injuries when he crossed Cedar Road and was hit by truck

A Nanaimo man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a motor vehicle in Cedar on the long weekend.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the collision happened in the 1700 block of Cedar Road on Sunday, May 17, at about 10:30 p.m.

The investigation determined the 53-year-old victim was walking southbound with another person on Cedar Road when, for unknown reasons, the victim decided to cross the roadway and was struck by a northbound Ford F-350 pickup, driven by a 37-year-old Cedar resident.

The victim was transported to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The driver remained at the scene and co-operated with investigators. The vehicle involved was seized and will undergo a mechanical inspection and the investigation is continuing.
