A family physician operating out of Penticton has had his medical licence suspended.
Dr. Jacobus Kooy, who works out of the clinic at 626 Main St., has had his licence suspended according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) online physician directory. While his profile on the directory does not stipulate when the suspension was issued or how long it will last, the suspension is listed as conditional. It also does not state why the suspension was issued.
A patient of Dr. Kooy told Western News staff that this suspension is allegedly for three months. According to staff with the City of Penticton, Dr. Kooy’s current business licence is still in good standing.
Dr. Kooy is originally from South Africa, having earned his medical degree in 1987 from Stellenbosch University according to his profile. CPSBC have declined to comment on the matter.
Dr. Kooy has not responded to the Penticton Western News’ request for comments.
