The Penticton Fire Department responded to two more grassfires in the late evening on Aug. 16 along the Channel Parkway.
“The first fire was at Channel Parkway and Eckhardt Avenue, in that area,” said Deputy Dennis Smith.
According to Smith, the small fire had been ‘significantly extinguished’ by a passerby just before crews arrived.

“Someone in a car stopped and used their portable fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire and then we came along a few minutes later and finished the job,” said Smith.

The second fire was also along the parkway near Fairview Road. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
In both instances, no property damage occurred. The Penticton Fire Department is unable to determine the cause of the fires at this time.
