Penticton firefighters douse fire in social housing

Small fire at former Super 8 motel quickly controlled

Penticton firefighters were called to the former Super 8 motel on Main Street Tuesday for a report of a fire.

Smoke was visible coming from the front office area of the building, which is being converted to social housing as Compass Court.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire before it could spread, though the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Main Street was temporarily shut down between Rosetown and Main while crews ventilated the smoke and packed up their equipment.
