The group offering Monday night dinners at Nanaimo Square will be on the move soon.
After their service on Monday to the less fortunate, the group behind the volunteer-led initiative announced they will be moving to Sunrise Pharmacy (749 Main St.) as of June 3.
“We have loved our time at the square, but for the safety of our guests and our volunteers, we are moving. With the city looking at bylaws and leasing sidewalk space they have sent a clear message and so we have decided to move on before we are squeezed out,” read a post on social media by the Monday Night Dinners at Nanaimo Square.

Monday Night Dinners at Nanaimo Square said the bakery located inside the building where they serve is planning to open a patio, pushing them out of that space.
This news came just days before the Penticton city council agenda was released and shows that the council will be reviewing the Good Neighbour bylaw at their regular meeting on Tuesday to address “antisocial behaviour.”

Some of the items that will be discussed at the council meeting include a change to the definition of obstruction to include “sit or lie on a street” in the downtown core.
The dinner group is looking for more volunteers and most recently are asking if anyone has chairs or benches that are lightweight. They are also asking if anyone would have a place to store them and deliver and take away after their service.
