The Penticton Indian Band is joining the Syilx Okanagan Nation’s For the Children Caravan on Saturday, June 26.
Chief Clarence Louie, chair of the Okanagan Nation Alliance, reached out to the and other bands in the Okanagan to travel to the former residential school in Kamloops to pay respect to the 215 children found buried there.
The Penticton Indian Band is offering to support members who wish to participate or join with the caravan, and the band will have use of their school bus for people who do not have a vehicle of their own.
The caravan will begin and leave from the South Okanagan Events Centre at 9 a.m. on June 26, joining up with vehicles departing from the Westbank First Nation office in Kelowna at 9:50 a.m., vehicles from the Vernon Okanagan College Campus at 10:50, and finally vehicles leave from the pullout between Monte Lake and Creek at 12 p.m.
The ceremony at the Kamloops residential school will begin at 1 p.m.
