Penticton’s royalty are hosting a special event for kindergarten to Grade 5 children next Sunday.

“It’s called the Children’s Winter Carnival,” said Princess Nyah Meller, who is organizing the event with fellow princess, Sarah Wood and Queen Brooklyn.

The event takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Lakeside Resort. There will be lots of events to keep the kids busy on a cold November Sunday afternoon: face painting, crafts, games, an inflatable obstacle course and an indoor snowball fight.

“The Vees are going to be there and the royalty is going to be there taking pictures with all the kids,” said Meller. Santa Claus, unfortunately, wasn’t able to add the carnival to his schedule.

The event is by donation, either a non-perishable food item to the food bank or a donation to the Cassidy Bowes Cancer Fundraising Drive.

Meller said it’s part of the royalty’s job to connect with youth.

“Especially the little kids from kindergarten to Grade 5 and just empower them like the old royalty did for us in the past … try to connect with them as much as possible,” said Meller.

Meller said they had a lot of help from Tina Stasiuk, mother of 2017 princess Makayla Stasiuk. “She and I worked back and forth on getting everything we needed. She was really helpful,” said Meller.

“The Lakeside Resort has been very generous in donating rooms to us in the past. Skaha Ford is sponsoring the entire event, which we are super thankful for. We just have a lot of connections and people have just been super helpful.”

With less than a week to go, Meller is looking forward to the carnival.

“It is going to be a really fun event to connect with all the kids,” said Meller. “I am sure they will be really excited and there will be lots of energy, There is going to be lots of crafts and stuff for them to do.”
