Greater Vernon residents can stretch their legs on a new section of trail.
A 300-metre link from Lakeview Drive to the Kalamalka Lake lookout is now completed after construction began in late November.
“The ground thawed out and the crew was able to get the work done,” said director Bob Fleming.
“It will be an easier walk for people. It was a goat path before.”
Money for the construction comes from the Area B community works fund.
Over the winter, planning will proceed on extending the trail from the lookout, along Kalamalka Lakeview Drive to Kekuli Bay and down to Bailey Road.
The trail will also extend from the south end of Jack Shratter Way, through Okanagan College, to College Drive.
“By spring, it will be three years since we started this process. It’s nice to see it coming together,” said Fleming.
Ministry of Transportation assistance will ensure a safe route along Kalamalka Lakeview Drive, the old highway.
“They will post a 60 kilometres an hour limit on the road. There was an old non-posted highway speed of 80 kilometres,” said Fleming.
