Rose McArthur (l) sells Jasper Belle a bagful of bannock prior to the May Day parade on Saturday.

She was one of several vendors taking part in a garage sale put on by North Thompson Aboriginal Sharing Centre.

Of Dakota heritage, she says bannock is descended from hard bread the First Nations used to make using wild grains. I

t has been modified since contact with Europeans through the addition of baking powder or yeast, but still is an important item for special occasions.
