The sentencing for Allen Piche, a.k.a. the Bear Dude, over alleged production and possession of marijuana has been delayed until Thursday, Oct. 16.
Piche and his ex-wife Kathleen Wickie were charged with growing and possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking on their property at Christina Lake after RCMP West Kootenay Traffic Service found over 1,000 marijuana plants while executing a search warrant in July 2010.
Both Piche and Wickie have not entered a plea on the drug charges.
Piche and Wickie were supposed to have their sentencing hearing on Sept. 10 but Crown Counsel was awaiting submissions from the court in Grand Forks and changed the sentencing to the Oct. 16 date.
Piche was recently fined $6,900 for feeding dangerous wildlife but will not face any jail time – he was charged with two counts under The Wildlife Act. For those charges, he was fined $3,500, with a provincial surcharge of $525 for one case, and also $2,500, with a surcharge of $375 for the other.
Bears were found on Piche’s property during the search warrant in 2010 and he pleaded guilty to feeding over 20 black bears
Another investigation conducted last summer found that Piche was still feeding bears and he was charged again with the same offences.
