Anyone spending time in Langley City in recent weeks may have noticed an intermittent noise coming from the Langley Cascades Casino and hotel site.
The pounding was the result of several weeks of pile driving, part of more than a year’s worth of work that will expand the casino, adding a new restaurant and gaming space.
According to Cascades, the pile driving is about to wrap up. Representative Madelaine Twomey said all pile driving should be completed in the next week or so.
However, construction will last much longer. The current timeline is for final completion in the summer of 2019, with a phased-in completion schedule for the interiors.
The gaming floor is expected to be done by this January.
Next up will be the new restaurant Cascades is adding, called the ATLAS Steak + Fish.
Last completed will be a rooftop patio.
The expansion is the largest since the casino was first built, and will add 24,000 square feet to the total building.
Langley’s Playtime Gaming bingo facility was closed down early this year, and its bingo tables moving over to the Cascades. That change proved somewhat controversial – not because of the move, but because Cascades closed its Summit Theatre to make room for the bingo expansion.
Some entertainment events continue to be held in the Cascades, but have been moved to the upstairs ballroom area.
The change had local leaders again calling for a dedicated performance space for the Langleys.
The ATLAS restaurant is one of the new changes coming to a number of casinos in the Gateway chain, having already been built in Burnaby, Kamloops, and Edmonton.
The goal of the expansion for the casino is to offer all types of gaming, including bingo, along with fine dining and other food options under one roof, Twomey said.
